Studies show that fungus infection of the toenails or Onychomycosis afflicts approximately 50% of the people over the age of 45 in the United States. It is a very common condition which can be easily contracted from our everyday environment, such as nail salons or gyms. Anyone involved with athletic activities is also susceptible to acquiring the fungus from trauma to the nail plate in activities such as running, tennis or dance. Over the year many treatments have been used to eliminate toe nail fungus. Over the counter medications almost always fail with cure rates less than 10%. Many have tried home remedies such as vinegar or bleach or other substances, none of which help the condition at all. The oral medication Lamisil can kill fungus but it has potentially harmful effects on the liver and regular blood tests are required.
